DNF: The Girls
DNF at 16%. The blurb on this book got my attention immediately. Not the type of thing I normally read but every now and then I find things that catch my eye and this book was one of them.
Unfortunately, it's one of those books where I know almost right off it won't be for me. I've had an arc of this since February, I've tried a few times to start it but never managed to get past the prologue. The writing was weird. I tried again and it's taken me since Sunday to even get to 16%. The writing is still weird, it feels very pretentious and very over written. It's told from an older lady's POV as she remembers something that happened in her youth the summer she was 14, but it's too bogged down, sounds like it's trying to be philosophical and clever, and it just doesn't work for me. It's boring and flat and the characters are just not holding my interest at all.
